Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
