The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Frustration Regarding Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has altered its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Social Media Backlash
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Required Changes
Another shopper, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
